The origin of Feng Shui goes back to around 3500 years in China. For centuries it remained the exclusive preserve of the Imperial families. In this century, however Feng Shui has become widely accessible to all class of people and increasingly popular. In the recent past with increase of migrants from China to the Far East the art of Feng Shui has become an indispensable part of life.
Father of Fengshui - Yang Yun Sang
Master Yang Yun Sang is recognized in ancient Chinese texts as the founder of Landscape Fengshui as we know it today. Landscape Fengshui studies the shapes of the mountains, the direction of water courses and most of all on searching for the green Dragon's Liar hidden in the undulating ridges and valleys of mountain ranges. Master Yang's principle came to be regarded as the form schol of Fengshui which describes good and bad Fengshui in terms of the visual appearance of physical landscapes more specifically hills and mountain ranges. Hills were described as Green Dragons and White Tigers, and places with good Fengshui required the presence of the Dragon.
Significance of Dragon in Fengshui and Compass Formula Fengshui
Dragon symbolism gave way to more scientific emphasis of compass orientations. Form school Fengshui gave way to Compass Formula Fengshui which based its analysis on the I Ching's eight trigrams and the placement of these trigrams around the eight - sided symbol known as Pa Kua.
Flying Star Fengshui
Another most popularly practised form of Fengshui is adding time dimension to this technique of analyzing the Fengshui of time periods is collectively practised under what is known as Flying Star Fengshui. This focusses on the significance of changing forces during different time periods. The process highlights the intangible influences of the numbers and combinations of number of the magic Lo Shu square.
Symbolic Fengshui
Astride these schools of Fengshui sits the parallel practice of symbolic Fengshui. The practice of displaying auspicious good fortune symbols in homes as they are said to attract great prosperity and abundance, good health and long life when displayed prominently and correctly. |
