Samsons Rubber Industries (P) Limited (SRIL) was incorporated in 1972 as a Private Limited Company to manufacture Automotive and Industrial Power Transmission Belts. Commercial production commenced in 1973 under the brand name HELICORD and the product range included wrapped V-belts and variable speed belts. Soon HELICORD was recognised as a quality brand by its industrial and automotive users and SRIL carved itself a niche in the market as a manufacturer of high class drive belts. Shortly afterwards, the product range was widened to cover narrow width V-belts and raw edge cogged automotive belts which were readily accepted by OEMs such as Premier Automobiles Ltd, Telco etc.
In 1992, SRIL became the first manufacturer in India to produce Profile Ground Poly-V belts. These belts successfully replaced imported belts used hitherto by Telco in their newly launched Tata Sierrra and Estate cars. When Cummins of USA set up a joint venture with Tatas in 1994 to produce their B series engines in India, SRIL was chosen as their exclusive OE supplier of Poly-V belts. SRIL has successfully met Cummins' stringent quality control requirements and commercial supplies are being made since March 1996. SRIL has developed the complete range of Poly - V Belts for all Indian and a few Imported Automobiles.
Committed to the production of drive belts to international standards and quality with the required research and development work carried out entirely in-house, SRIL reached another milestone in 1996. It was again the first Indian manufacturer to successfully develop, complete production trials and introduce into the market HELICORD Synchro-Drive timing belts for a number of Indian vehicles, including all Tata passenger cars, Tatamobile, Premier / 37 D, HM Contessa Classic petrol and diesel cars, Daewoo's CIELO, Fiat's UNO and Maruti.
With its policy of remaining in the forefront of drive belt technology and manufacturing world class belts, SRIL is forging links with more and more international automobile manufacturers as they set up their plants in India in the post liberalisation era. During 1998, SRIL is also planning to enter the hitherto untapped export market.
SRIL has over twenty five years experience in drive belt design and development using the latest techniques and finest materials available. Besides, SRIL's engineers can offer technical assistance on drive systems to designers of engines and drive systems. |
