Prof. Dr. Mohan Thomas is a certified cosmetic plastic surgeon with a special interest in surgery of the craniofacial region. His undergraduate studies were at Mumbai University and he holds doctoral and post - doctoral degrees from the medical college of Pennyslvania and New York State University Dental School.
He interned at Allegheny University, Philadelphia and completed residencies/fellowships in general surgery plastics, craniofacial, maxillofacial and cosmetic surgery at Mount Sinai/New York Univeristy Hospital Health Systems and Hahnemann University Hospitals. He has received Advanced training in microsurgery and cosmetic plastic and dermatologic surgery at Harvard, UCLA.
Dr. Thomas is a professor of surgery at the Mount Sinai/ NYU school of Medicine and a visiting scholar at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre,New York. He was a professor and chairman fo plastic, craniofacial and reconstructive surgery, HJDOI, New York. He is currently a Honorary consultant - Cosmetic plastic surgery at the Breach Candy Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai.
He is a certified Instructor in BLS, ACLS and ATLS. Dr. Thomas is currently responsible for the CPR training programme at the Breach Candy Hospital. He is laser certified in nine wave lengths and has run several workshops on "Use of Lasers and Laser Safety", for over fifteen years.
Dr. Thomas has been involved with many research projects, the most notable being "growing cartilage from Harvested Cartilage Cells", which has paved the way for research and development of other tissue analogs.
Besides having pioneered several surgical procedures he has also designed several hi-tech surgical instruments which are now in use in the field of Endoscopy and Microsurgery.
