It is believed that 20-25% of our agricultural produce is lost due to wrong post harvest practices. Irradiation treatment can help reduce the risk of food borne illnesses by eliminating pathogens and parasites, such as bacterium or fungus or safety. This contributes to boost international trade by overcoming quarantine barriers. It improves quality and marketability of agricultural products.

Radiation process is carried out by means of gamma rays. These gamma rays belong to the same family as microwave and radiowaves. It is therefore, reasonable to expect their use for food preservation. There is more than 120 commercial food irradiation facilities worldwide spread over developed as well as developing countries.

Agrosurg Irradiators (India) Pvt Ltd is registered with registrar of companies as private limited company from 1999. It was established by technocrats with the objective of setting up a safe and state of the art radiation facility for irradiation of food and sterilization of medical products.

Promoters are Janak L. sheth - Director, Navin P. Patel - Director, Harshad S. Doshi - Jt Managing Director, Pankaj M. Marfatia - Jt Managing Director, Vasudeva Kilara Iya - Technical Advisor.

Technology - Know-How: Agreement with BARC/BRIT

Agrosurg has entered into memorandum of understanding for transfer of technology in radiation processing of food and medical products. Under this agreement Board of Radiation and Isotopes Technology (BRIT), has agreed to give Agrosurg the basic design parameters of their spice irradiator. It is agreed that BRIT will give Agrosurg complete technical support in this venture of design, development, construction, installation and commissioning of Gamma Irradiator.
